But the notable difference is that it's infused with hyaluronic acid and rose water to give your skin the moisture surge it needs. Similar to it's 16HR counterpart, the Hydrating Camo Concealer is made to be lightweight and long-lasting. (Another bad habit I took up during lockdown.) I saw video after video of the Hydrating Camo Concealer ($6), and I decided that anything with that big of a fan base and that cheap of a price tag was worth a shot. I upped my skin-care game significantly, but unfortunately, the damage was already done, and I needed makeup to help hide my splotches and breakouts. It did not appreciate my sudden lack of routine, and I've been dealing with uneven texture and dryness ever since. "If you had asked back in April (that feels like a lifetime ago, amirite?) if I was ever going to wear face makeup again, I would have emphatically told you "Nope, nah, never again!" Then my skin rebelled. Did they live up to they hype? Did they last all day? Were they the answer to dark circles, blemishes, and beyond? Spoiler alert: all of the above. To compare the two formulas, we asked two beauty editors new to the products and with different skin types, one oily and the other dry, to put the concealers to the test.
ELF CONCEALER CAMO FULL
It features the same lightweight full coverage as the original, but in a hydrating, satin finish, plus the star ingredient of rose water. Cosmetics listened and delivered, remixing the 16HR formula to create the hydrating formula. When consumer feedback pointed toward the desire for a more hydrating formula for dry skin, e.l.f.

While the OG formula has been around since early 2019 and has since earned its cult status, it's the recent release of the new Hydrating Camo Concealer that has put both formulas on our radars. One Google search yields thousands of reviews and a near-perfect star rating, with many users touting that its results are comparable to more expensive products. To say that the internet loves this product is an understatement. But there's one exception to this rule: the e.l.f. So when it only costs a few bucks a pop, it's only natural that we'd be a little skeptical that it really can do it all.

Have you tried either Tarte or Elf products? Leave a comment below sharing your favorites from either brand! Overall, I would recommend trying both products depending on your budget! For the price though you can experiment with multiple shades to find which one is right for you. A downside of the Elf concealer is the color on the packaging is not true to the actual color of the product, which oxidizes or gets darker as it dries. Tarte Shape Tape has a whopping 30 colors, while the Camo Concealer only has18. If you have dry skin like me, I would also recommend going in with a hydrating setting spray for both.Įlf did come out with a hydrating version of this concealer, that I am dying to try. In my opinion, when you go in with a heavy hand on either, you can look a bit cakey. A little goes a long way with these products. Formulaīoth formulas are full-coverage, and they really mean full-coverage. They have pretty similar applicators though, both large doe foot. The packaging on the Tarte concealer is a bit more luxe-looking compared to the simple Elf packaging. Now let’s get into the details: Packaging Compared to the $27 Tarte Shape Tape, this is a much better deal. Initially, I loved the price of the Elf concealer for $6 I can afford to get a range of shades which I like to do for when I’m self-tanning. I use to always use Tarte Shape Tape, but when I first heard about Elf’s $6 dupe, I had to give it a try. I would say Elf is my favorite drugstore, and Tarte is my favorite high-end. So this post is anything but groundbreaking still, I want to share my first-hand experience using the products. Many people have compared the two, and swear they are dupes.

Now, these two products, Elf 16HR Camo Concealer and Tarte Shape Tape have both take the beauty community by storm. To kick things off, I thought it would be perfect to start with a Dupe or Dud. I want to get back to posting more beauty on Dishing Up Chic since it’s been a while.
